10 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Stoners

Ricki Lake made her debut as a talk-show host at the age of 24. The first incarnation of her talk show Ricki Lake ran until 2004 – after which she did some other stuff and made it into a few lists of “What happened to the 90’s talk show host?”.

Now, she’s into weed. In fact, she’s so passionate about the herb that she joined forces with director and producer Abby Epstein to work on a documentary about Cannabis in the treatment of childhood cancers called Weed the People.

Their campaign on Indiegogo has raised $114 347, going over its budget of $100, 000 and the project is listed as currently filming.

There seem to be a lot of things people didn’t know about Bill Murray: He loves playing golf, he only voiced Garfield because he thought the script was written by Joel Coen (The Big Lebowski), not Joel Cohen and he’s the subject of a website called Bill Murray Story. Here’s another one: He got arrested for weed at O’Hare Airport on his 20th birthday in 1970 – ten goddamn pounds of it.

The then-young, pre-med (!) Bill Murray was making his way to Denver at the time. How’d he get caught? By making a wisecrack about carrying two bombs in his suitcase in the worst possible place to do so.

Bill got hit with five years’ probation as a result.

Cameron Diaz played a foul-mouthed, weed-toking teacher in Bad Teacher with Justin Timberlake, another addition to this list. Who knew that “weed is awesome” reflects how she really feels about the herb?  She used to buy her weed from Snoop Dogg. No, really, here’s a video of her saying it herself on the George Lopez Show.

Morgan Freeman is known for being part of Hollywood’s best (and having played both God and Nelson Mandela), while Morgan Freeman’s voice is known for its hypnotic effect and magical powers.

He has been quoted as saying that weed is the only thing that offers any amount of relief for the fybromialgia-related pain he experiences in one arm. He went through a car accident in Mississippi (2003) which left him with an injured left hand and another private plane crash in 2015, during which he luckily came out fine.

Stephen King is best known as that famous writer guy who was in Family Guy and fucked up clowns for everybody. He also came right out in an interview with High Times and said that weed in his state of Maine is “pretty good”.  No shit, Stephen.

“I think that marijuana should not only be legal, I think it should be a cottage industry. It would be wonderful for the state of Maine. There’s some pretty good homegrown dope. I’m sure it would be even better if you could grow it with fertilizers and have greenhouses.”

In the same interview, he admitted that he doesn’t smoke much anymore, saying that he’s “afraid of additives, which come from decontrol and deregulation.”

“Anybody can squirt anything into it that they want to. And that scares me. I don’t like the idea. My idea of what dope is supposed to be is to just get mellow. And what I do, if I smoke it anymore, is when I’m driving to the movies, to smoke a couple real quick so I can sit there in the first row. It’s kind of interesting and they have all that good munchie food, too, you don’t have to make yourself.”

Hey, remember that time you got so fucking stoned you were arrested for playing bongo drums naked? Matthew McConaughey does. In 1999, just this happened in Texas. He has since said that his naked and bongo playing days are “far over”, but the mellow vibe flowing between him and his toking costar Woody Harrelson in True Detectives leaves us wondering…

We could’ve guessed that Kirsten Dunst was stoned during the filming of Spider-Man. But it turns out that she’s all for legalization and even went as far as to say that the world would be a better place if everyone smoked weed in an interview with British magazine Live in 2007:

“I’ve tried drugs. I do like weed. I have a different outlook on marijuana than America does. My best friend Sasha’s dad was Carl Sagan, the astronomer. He was the biggest pot smoker in the world and he was a genius. I’ve never been a major smoker, but I think America’s view on weed is ridiculous. I mean – are you kidding me? If everyone smoked weed, the world would be a better place.’ She swiftly adds a caveat. ‘I’m not talking about being stoned all day, though. I think if it’s not used properly, it can hamper your creativity and close you up inside.”, Mail on Sunday (Live magazine) (UK), Apr. 8, ’07

She backed away from her pro-weed attitude during a court case involving a stolen handbag, saying that she is “not a pothead” and doesn’t smoke. Damnit, Kirsten, why?

Known as the only guy who ever got out of N’Sync (and being married to Britney for a while, like, whatever, y’all), he told Playboy Magazine in 2011 that some people are just better high – and that weed gets him to stop thinking.

I’m sure he smokes plenty to stop thinking about his N’Sync catalogue…

Martha Stewart is America’s homemaker.

And, according to reports she smoked weed with Snoop Dogg and comedian Jeff Ross at theComedy Central roast of Justin Bieber. Afterwards, Martha Stewart complained that Snoop “smoked for four hours”. See her and Snoop making brownies here:

Oh, and also, she told Andy Cohen in June 2013: “Of course I know how to roll a joint.”

Of course you do, Martha, of course.
