16 Mind-Blowing Details in Movies That You Probably Missed

For as long as we’ve had movies, directors have packed their films with little details.

Thankfully, we have the internet — so when die-hard fans spot something really cool, they can share it with the rest of us.

From homages to Easter eggs, these details in your favorite movies will blow your mind.

1. There’s a movie poster for Batman vs. Superman in the background of I Am Legend.

Tumblr | Brooklynofrph

Batmat vs. Superman was released last year, but it was teased back in 2007 in I Am Legend.

The reason? The producer and writer of I Am Legend wrote an early draft of the superhero flick.

2. Bruce Wayne drives a Lamborghini Murciélago in The Dark Night. Murciélago just so happens to mean “bat” in Spanish.

Really subtle, Bruce. Clearly, his car of choice is a nod to his alter ego.

3. Kevin was never going to get on that plane in Home Alone.

In an early scene in Home Alone, Kevin spills milk all over the family’s plane tickets and passports. When they’re quickly cleaning up the mess, Kevin’s dad accidentally throws out Kevin’s ticket.

4. Did you notice Aladdin’s carpet in Moana?

Disney loves to make references to their past movies in new films, but many people didn’t catch this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo. We see you, Magic Carpet!

5. Cobb’s ring in Inception.

The ending of Inception has sparked a ton of theories, but an eagle-eyed fan may have figured it out. Whenever Cobb is inside a dream, he’s wearing his wedding ring. But when he wakes up, it’s gone. There’s no ring in the film’s final scene.

6. Aragorn’s subtle homage to Boromir.

Clubecien | Clubecien

Just before Boromir dies, he and Aragorn share a touching moment. But did you notice that for the next two films, Aragorn wears Boromir’s leather arm guards? Me neither!

There’s even a scene where Aragorn puts them on!

7. In the scene with the “woman in red” in The Matrix, the extras are multiple sets of twins.

Genuis | Genuis

The use of twins and triplets for the extras in this scene is supposed to mimic how coders often duplicate things in the background to save time.

8. And there’s also a reference to this scene in Star Wars: Episode II.

When Obi-Wan and Anakin are in the bar, a man and a woman try to distract them. The couple is played by the actors who played Mouse and the “woman in the red dress” in The Matrix.

9. X’s are hidden in a ton of scenes in The Departed to foreshadow death.

Pref | Pref

This use of X’s to indicate impending doom is a direct homage to Scarface, which did the same thing. A few examples include X’s made with graffiti, crossbeams, and tape on the windows.

10. There’s a heartbreaking story about a family of bears hidden in Shrek.

The first time we see the bear family, they’re in cages. When we see them again, the mother is missing.

Well, that’s because she’s now a rug in Lord Farquaad’s bedroom.

11. The jeep in Jurassic World is the same one from Jurassic Park.

When Zach and Gray are fleeing in an old jeep, the ID tag number hanging from therearview mirror is “029.” That’s the same as the jeep in the first Jurassic Park film.

12. So that’s why all the aliens in Guardians of the Galaxy speak English…

In the scene where Peter Quill is arrested, a list of his personal details appears on screen. One of those details is an enhancement called a “translator implant.”

13. And finally, Steve Rogers’ notebook in Captain America: The Winter Soldier shows different pop culture references depending on what country it was shown in.

Other references include “Sean Connery,” “World Cup Final (1966),” and “Rafa Nadal.”

14. The fight between O-Ren Ishii and The Bride in Kill Bill Vol. 1.

Giphy | Giphy

Before they start fighting, Lucy Liu’s character says, “You might not last five minutes.” The fight ends in minutes and 59 seconds when she dies.

15. Neville did forget something.

There’s a scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone where Neville Longbottomreceives a Remembrall. It immediately turns red to indicate he’s forgot something, but he can’t remember what.

In the scene, he’s the only student not wearing his robes.

16. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall in Back to the Future.

When Marty goes back in time, he runs over one of two pine trees on Old Man Peabody’s lawn. When he returns to his time, the mall’s name has changed to reflect the incident.

17. Peter Quill definitely got his eye for style from Daddy in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

In the opening flashback where we meet Ego (Quill’s father), his car is painted with the same blue and orange color scheme as Peter’s spaceship.

18. Max from The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl is having something familiar for lunch.

Reddit | SeaOrca

If you look closely, you can see that his lunch comes from Big Kahuna Burger, the restaurant that made the tasty burger Samuel L. Jackson tried in Pulp Fiction.

19. You can find a similar nod in Toy Story right after Sid straps Buzz to a rocket.

The toolbox holding Woody’s cage down comes from Binford Tools, which was the fictional sponsor of Tim Taylor’s show in Home Improvement.

20. Harry Potter subtly tells us what young wizards eat for breakfast.

Reddit | minisaladfresh

Rather than plain ol’ Cheerios, Hogwarts students can apparently look forward to some nice, hearty Cheeri Owls.

I have to admit, that sounds like a much better option.

21. In Cars, the airplane contrails look just like tire tracks.

For the sake of our own well-being, let’s just not worry about how that’s supposed to work. Even the skies themselves are just one big road now.

22. Even Dumb and Dumber’s opening credits got into character.

Reddit | The2ndPoptart

I swear I must have watched this movie 100 times and I never noticed that these people were credited as “prodoosers.” The credits also dutifully list the “muzik” and “costoom” directors.

23. In Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, crossing the mountains of Caradhras was too difficult for our heroes.

Reddit | cizzlewizzle

Well, for most of them, anyway.

As we can see here, Legolas could just walk on top of the snow that everyone else had to trudge through.

24. Right before Gaston’s death in Beauty and the Beast, we can see skulls appear in his eyes for a couple of frames.

Reddit | fastattaq

These skulls were removed when the movie first appeared on home video, but it seems they returned for the DVD and Blu-Ray releases.
