18 FUNKADELIC 70S MEN’S FASHION ADS – WHEN REAL MEN ONLY WORE POLYESTER

Dudes playing racquetball in speedos? Bros wearing matching briefs and tees to the beach? Construction workers wearing striped tanks, high-waisted bell-bottoms and sandals? Damn, the 70s were crazy. Just don’t let those Brooklyn hipsters get a hold of that “Men in Belted Sweaters” leaflet. Just imagining the smell of the L Train filled with hairy, sweaty guys covered in wool is nauseating.

I bet some of those brinylon pants are still around- they were fucking indestructible. I had a tshirt aged about 7 ( puts it at 1970) and it was still going strong in 1990, I gather it was handed on again, bloody thing will be out there somewhere..

Growing up with ‘trendy and stylish clothes’ just like this to choose from (for men or women) sure helped me realize that just because something is “in style” sure as hell doesn’t mean that it’s actually good looking…
I’d much rather look good in my clothes than be wearing trendy/stylish clothes.
