wrTjCyU[1]Nobody is perfect. We all get things wrong (actually, almost every day you are guaranteed to get something wrong). You don’t think you get anything wrong? Well there you go, that’s your first mistake of the day. Life isn’t about always being right. This is a good thing because as you will see it’s not difficult to get something quite wrong.

Think about this: If you start a business and expect everything to be perfect, to turn a profit from day one, and to never have to make any extremely hard decisions then most people would say you are probably being a bit delusional. The truth is we all make mistakes. To some degree, we all have skewed and warped views of how things are. Some of these wrong views are harmless, with little to no consequence to your overall life. Other views however can be a bit more problematic. So today we are going to show you 25 things that people quite often get wrong. If you find yourself a victim of believing these errors don’t feel bad, like we said before, nobody is perfect and learning is part of the solution

No it doesn’t. It just doesn’t.

People swallow an average of 4 spiders per year

Or was it 6? Or 8? It just depends who you heard the myth from. But, since we are talking about averages, it is most likely more than 0. Why? Even if only 1 person on Earth swallowed a spider this year, that would make the average small, but positive (0.00000000000000000000000001 spiders per year…or something like that)

Carrots give you good eyesight

So do tomatoes, exercise, and not smoking. During World War II the British didn’t want the Germans to know they had radar so they spread propaganda saying the good eyesight of their pilots was due to carrots. And everyone believed it.

The Great Wall of China is the only man made object visible from space

Nope. Even from low Earth orbit (space shuttle) you can see many highways and dams better than the Great Wall because the color of its construction materials blends into the Earth.

People in the Middle Ages believed the Earth was flat

Not really. People had already known the Earth was a sphere since nearly 300BC when the Greeks calculated its circumference. And besides, there are people even today who still believe it is flat (as unbelievable as that may sound).

Pencils used to be made of lead

Pencils used to be made of lead

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

This is only partially true. The part you use to write with (on the inside) was always graphite. The reason pencils caused lead poisoning was because up until the mid-1900s the outer coating consisted heavily of lead, which kids tended to suck on.

Undercover police officers have to tell you whether or not they are a police officer

No they don’t. Just because it happens in Hollywood doesn’t mean it happens in real life. There are no laws requiring this.

You get a rush of energy after ingesting sugar

This has actually been proven wrong. It’s just a placebo. But that doesn’t mean people have stopped believing it.

The color red gets bulls riled up

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

No. Bulls are colorblind. The reason they get angry when the matador waves a red cloth is because of the waving motion. And also because they are usually starved and abused beforehand.

16

Glass is a liquid

Glass is a liquid

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

No. People began to believe this because of the fact that antique windows tend to be thicker at the bottom. This makes it look as though the glass “flowed” down. It didn’t. The windows were built this way for various reasons including water proofing. Glass is actually an amorphous solid.

15

MSG is bad for you

MSG is bad for you

In the same way that vaccines are bad for you. How is that? Because people believe both of these are bad for you based on disproved and anecdotal studies.

14

Macintosh computers are immune to viruses

They are definitely not immune. It is just that since less people have Macs, there is less of a market for Mac viruses. As more people get Macs, there will be more Mac viruses.

13

Chameleons camouflage themselves to match their environment

They actually change color because of communication, temperature, and light. Not for camouflage.

Vocal tics are only experienced by about 10% of people with Tourette’s. And even then the tic is not necessarily a swear word.

11

Their memory is actually quite good. You can even train a goldfish to perform tricks.

10

Your left brain controls creativity and your right brain controls logic

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

Wrong. The biggest difference between your hemispheres is that they control muscles on opposite sides of your body. When it comes to more abstract concepts such as creativity and language though, they are both responsible in relatively equal measure.

Different parts of your tongue sense different tastes

Nope. All parts of your tongue sense every taste.

Carrots are actually dangerous to rabbits. Thanks a lot Bugs Bunny.

7

You were the fastest sperm cell

You were actually one of the slower cells. Why? Because it takes several sperm to wear down the egg’s protective outer layer before it can be fertilized.

For those of you who like cracking…it won’t. But it may lose you some friends.

5

While it can cause short term eye fatigue because your muscles are working harder to focus, there is no scientific evidence that it affects your eyes in the long run

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

First of all, daddy long legs can refer to several species, only one of which is a spider. Second of all, none of them are that venomous.

3

You only use 10% of your brain

In the same way that you only use 33% of a traffic light. You definitely use your whole brain, just not at the same time. Unless you’re having a seizure…then you are using a lot more of it.

2

Cold weather gives you colds

Cold weather gives you colds

Source: reddit, Image: pixabay

No, it doesn’t. The only reason colds propagate during winter is because of less humidity. In fact, you are more likely to catch a cold indoors than outdoors. Your internal body temperature and immune system are unaffected by outdoor temperatures. And if they are, even by a couple degrees, then you are flirting with hypothermia…which means colds are the least of your worries.

If cell phones give you cancer, then so do other people. Because people are more radioactive than cell phones.
