At this point, we can all pretty much agree that dress code violations are a bunch of sexist BS. I mean, sure, there are inappropriate things to wear, and on occasion a guy will get in trouble for wearing baggy pants or something, but most dress code violations are about keeping girls form distracting boys. And the following seven examples of dress code violations are particularly whack! Can we just start making common sense judgement calls here, people!?
Scarf Cover Up!
When Stephanie Dunn showed up to school wearing the above shirt, she was technically in violation of her school’s dress code, which states that says girls can’t show off their… collarbones. Ugh. Stacy’s mom was PISSED and posted this on Facebook:
“This is ridiculous! WOODFORD County High School and the principle have been enforcing a dress code where as girls can not show even there collar bones [sic] because it may distract their male class mates. Parents are being called away from their important jobs and students are missing important class time because they are showing their collarbones! Something needs to change!”
She brought her daughter a scarf to cover up, but it was still deemed inappropriate. The Principal also felt Stephanie was giving him attitude, so she was sent home. EFF YEAH she was giving you attitude, you moron!
Inappropriate Cheerleader Uniforms
When cheerleaders at La Cueva high school were told that they could no longer wear their uniforms to school on game day because they violated the dress code, they were like “BITCH, PLEASE!” Uh, yeah… sleeveless tops and short skirts are kinda what a cheerleader outfit is, am I right? The cheerleaders would show up in the uniforms anyway and they all received detention. I say good for them. It’s kind of the only time I’ve ever sided with cheerleaders.
No Sausage Rolls?!
Oh man. Who in the hell thought this was okay? Back in May, a high school sent out a memo regarding what would be appropriate to wear to graduation ceremony. It’s all sorts of ridiculous but what really got people up in arms was the following quote:
“Please remember as you select an outfit for the awards assembly that we don’t want to be looking at ‘sausage rolls’ as Mrs. Elliot calls them. As you get dressed, remember that you can’t put 10 pounds of mud in a five-pound sack.”
That’s not very professional language. In their defense, the memo’s writers were pretty much rude throughout the whole damn thing to pretty much everyone.
Too Short Skirts
Just so you don’t think it’s only schools in the U.S that are dumb, here’s an equally moronic U.K. school! Of course, this school goes a step further in their sexist BS by stating that short skirts were banned because it was “distracting for male teachers and other pupils”. Male TEACHERS?! Ewww. It’s one thing for teen boys to be out of control, because hormones, but adults being horny for teen girls is just gross. Maybe don’t work in a school you gross horndogs!
Backless Prom Dress
18-year-old Mireya Briceno was sent home from prom for wearing this backless number. What rule did she violate? The one about “not showing any midriff”. Uh… this rule truly highlights how ridiculous these arbitrary rules are. There is nothing remotely inappropriate about this dress even if it does show a modest amount of skin. Also aren’t things supposed to get a little inappropriate at prom? I give up.
When girls showed up to their California High School in 90 plus degree weather, they were quickly confronted with rulers to see if their skirts were no more than 2 1/2 inches above the knee. 25 girls were deemed in violation of the rule and forced to cover up or change. Seriously. If the clothes of that many girls are deemed to be inappropriate, you know you have a problem. Also, how stupid do you feel measuring someone’s skirt?
Honor Roll Student Gets Busted
Even honor students aren’t immune to dress code violation lunacy! When Cameron Boland went to Ida Baker high school to give a speech for the honor society, she wore an informal spaghetti-strapped dress. Because she didn’t go to the school and was just there as a guest, she didn’t think it was a problem. Not only was she sent home, her position in the Honor Society was taken away. WHAT? So basically everyone, from cheerleaders to bookworms, are dressing inappropriately. We can’t win. Ain’t it great to be a woman?
