You’ll be surprised (Photo: Getty/Metro)

Have you heard the good news? Apparently beer can make you better in bed.

It makes you last longer, if you’re a guy, and give more endurance. So, goodbye fears of whisky dick if you stay on the ale and lager, right…?

But it’s not the only surprising thing that can make you better in between the sheets. Here is a list of things that can improve your sex life.

1) Watermelon

Who needs pills when you have exotic fruit?

Watermelon has viagra-like effects, according to a study by Texas A&M University.

The nutrients in the fruit help to relax the blood vessels and increase blood flow to your genital area, giving melon power to your peen and vagina.

2) Liquorice

Why, biology, why? We all know that liquorice is one the grossest foods on the planet – but apparently it also helps us get in the mood.

According to a study by Alan R. Hirsch from the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, men who were exposed to the smell of liquorice found that their median blood flow to penis was increased by 31.5 per cent.

I know. I don’t get it either.

3) Doughnuts

It just might be one of Cosmo’s classic weird sex tips for a reason. Doughnuts are apparently good at getting men in the mood.

In the aforementioned study by Hirsch, when the smell of doughnuts was combined with the odour of pumpkin pie, blood flow to the penis was increased by 20 per cent.

As if you needed another excuse to get to a Krispy Kreme stall.

4) Wearing red

Ladies, want your man to be more attentive and amorous in the bedroom? Wearing red is the key.

In a study by the University of Rochester, men were shown pictures of women dressed in different colours. Overall, they were more attracted to those wearing red than those who weren’t.

What’s more, men are completely unaware of it.

‘It’s fascinating to find that something as ubiquitous as colour can be having an effect on our behaviour without our awareness,’ said study author Andrew Elliot.

5) Yoga – but not in the way you think

Yoga doesn’t just make you more limber and able to try out those impossible looking sex positions. It has other benefits too.

A study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy found that women who regularly did yoga were more connected to their body and more in touch with their sexuality.

6) Scaring yourself..?

It sounds bizarre, but it’s scientifically proven…so…

According to a study in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, giving yourself an adrenaline rush can lead to serious horniness.

As leader author Cindy Meston PHD explains to Health Magazine: ‘When you’re doing something exciting, your heart is racing and your nervous system is activated, much like they would be if you were sexually aroused.’

7) The smell of men post-workout

Women, the last thing you might want is to be anywhere near your sweaty man after he’s been to the gym. But, then again, maybe you should be.

A study by researchers at the University of California found that the smell of male sweat boosts the mood and arousal of women.

To be honest, we probably don’t need science to prove this. If that Coca-Cola advert proves anything, it’s that women get turned on just by the look of a sweaty man, never mind the scent of them.

8) Dark chocolate

Quelle surprise. The king of aphrodisiacs, i.e chocolate, is scientifically proven to give you a boost in the bedroom.

An interesting study in the Journal Sexual Sciences concluded that women who ate more dark chocolate experienced more sexual desire.

Not a fan of dark chocolate? Milk chocolate has the same effect too, it seems.
