99-Year-Old Man Reunited With Wife After Losing Her For Four Years

We’re all prone to losing things every once in a while- our phones (expensive), our keys (inconvenient), our dignity (all too often), but one 99-year-man managed to trump us all by losing his wife. That’s right, his wife – and it was for so long that she actually thought he’d died.

Along with having an absolutely amazing name, Emile Georges Jean-Petite-Matile was happily living in Thailand with his wife of 20 years, Krajai, when in 2014 he had to fly home to Switzerland for medical treatment.

Unfortunately, while he was over there, poor ol’ Emile lost his notebook, which had Krajai’saddress and phone number back home in Koh Phangan. Neither of them used the internet, so that left them unable to reach each other and in a bit of a pickle.

After 18 months, Emile eventually managed to battle through his health problems, but was still unsure of the whereabouts of Krajai – who had believed that he must have passed away after his illness, and moved back to live with her family.

But Emile, ever-determined, contacted tourist police at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok earlier this month, where officers were able to track down Krajai and arranged for Emile to be flown over to Bangkok for a poignant reunion on Monday morning.

Emile said: “I have to tell you, that even though when you are old and your body hardly works, the feelings of love and joy are just as strong.

“This is the happiest moment of my life. To see my true love in my last years is what I have dreamed about while I was away.

“I had lost all ways to contact my wife. But I always believed that it was destiny for us to meet again. I’m so thankful for everybody who has made this possible.

“I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I’ve come home for a last hurrah.”

His wife Krajai said: “I will look after my husband. I’ll watch him closely. I’m so very happy to see him again. We are still in love very much.

“He went home when he was sick and I thought he had passed away, because he never contacted me again. ‘I didn’t know how to get in contact with him when he was away. I just waited for him to call me. I did not know what had happened to me.”

Major General Surachet Puangphan, Deputy Chief of Staff and Mr Kittipong Kittikachorn, Deputy Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport – who helped bring the couple back together – said they are delighted with the happy outcome.

Kittipong said: “We are happy to help two people who wanted to see each other again. Our team worked hard to make this possible and it was very rewarding to see the happiness it brought.”

Ah, we love a story with a nice ending. Remember to keep Krajai’s number safe next time, eh Emile?
