You Can Win An Airbnb Night’s Stay At Dracula’s Castle – There Is No HBO Though

1

Bran Castle, home of the titular character in Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” is running a spooky promotion with Airbnb that will allow two lucky (or unlucky) guests the opportunity to spend Halloween in the frightening fortress. For one night only, winners of the contest will be flown to Romania from anywhere in the world, where they’ll be greeted by host Dacre Stoker (Bram’s great-grand nephew), who will act as a guide “through the dark passages of the castle for a private unveiling of its many mysteries.”

Though, as a frequent Airbnb user, I have to say Stoker’s description of the premises doesn’t make it sound very enticing. He might have better luck attracting guests if he spent a little more time jazzing up his listing:

A horse-drawn carriage carries you swiftly through Transylvania as the sun sets towards the horizon, heralding the hours of swooping bats and howling wolves. When you come around the final bend on the tree-lined road, you’ll catch a glimpse of Bran Castle. This misty mountain-top manor is home for the night. The chill that suddenly fills the carriage is not the evening mist, it’s a fear older than the forests now grown up around the castle rock. This is the lair of vampires, and you cannot leave until dawn.

See what I mean? It doesn’t sound like it’s located in a very safe neighborhood. And it looks like it doesn’t have HBO, which is pretty standard at most places these days. In fact, it doesn’t have much in the way of amenities at all.

If Stoker invested a little more into not only his description, but the space itself, he’d probably get a much better response rate. Also: what’s nearby? Grocery stores? Starbucks? Fun tourist attractions? This sort of information is crucial to any successful Airbnb listing. Finally, it doesn’t make much sense for the castle to only be open one night out of the year (especially on Halloween, a day many people will be out trick-or-treating or at costume parties). I’d recommend Stoker open the listing up throughout the summer months, especially over long weekends. I don’t see many people wanting to vacation in Transylvania during the winter.
