‘Captain Marvel’: Everything We Know About the Movie So Far

Are we past the point of warning you all about Infinity War spoilers? If not, **INFINITY WARSPOILERS**

If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War (or at least read about the post-credits scene), you know that Captain Marvel is going to be joining The Avengers in next year’s Infinity War conclusion movie. But before we see her take on Thanos, she has her OWN movie coming out in 2019. Here’s everything we know about the Captain Marvel movie so far…

IT STARS BRIE LARSON, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, AND JUDE LAW

Though the plot of Captain Marvel is being kept under wraps, we know it’ll tell the origin story of Captain Marvel, AKA Carol Danvers, played by Room star Brie Larson. Samuel L. Jackson obviously plays Nick Fury in the MCU movies, so we can expect to see a lot of him, as well as the backstory of SHIELD (including Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson). Although the movie in currently in production, they’re still adding cast members, like four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening.

The film will also follow “an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds”, which is probably where Jude Law’s character will come into play, as he’s playing Mar-Vell, AKA Captain Marvel, a member of an alien race known as the Kree who mentors Captain Marvel.

CAPTAIN MARVEL HAS SOME CRAZY POWERS

Before becoming Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers was a pilot for the United States Air Force. But when a Kree device exploded and fused her genes with alien DNA, she woke up with superhuman strength, flight, the power to both absorb and project energy, and see the future. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige actually said in 2016 that Captain Marvel will be the MOST powerful character introduced into the MCU thus far.

THE MOVIE TAKES PLACE IN THE ’90S

While the plot is still a huge mystery, but we DO know that Captain Marvel will take place in the 1990s. The film will work as a prequel to the entire MCU, and in addition to the origin story of Captain Marvel, herself, will also tell the backstory of Nick Fury and SHIELD. A few pictures of young Nick Fury even leaked, if you ever wanted to see Samuel L. Jackson with two eyes and hair.

THE BAD GUYS WILL BE THE SKRULLS!

Kevin Feige confirmed that the Captain Marvel movie will feature another alien race called the Skrulls. According to the comics, The Skrulls are a race of shape-shifters, and they’re perpetually at war with the Kree, who we’ve already met in the Guardians of the Galaxy. Just look how MEAN they look!

RONAN THE ACCUSER FROM THE FIRST GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY IS BACK

Speaking of the Kree, you remember the bad guy from Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan the Accuser? He’s back (or actually isn’t dead yet), and will be played once again by actor Lee Pace. Ronan isn’t always a villain in the comics, so he might be less evil or even heroic in this movie.

CAPTAIN MARVEL IS (PROBABLY) GONNA FIGHT SOMEONE ON TOP OF A TRAIN?

Or maybe she’s saving the train? Or maybe she’s fighting the actual train? Or maybe she likes to commute via train but is too cheap to buy a ticket? We’ll just have to wait until March 6th next year to find out!
