A policeman chats with a security officer on Monday as groups snap photos of the Beijing Uniqlo store where a couple apparently filmed themselves having sex in a video that has gone viral. As many as five people have been arrested in connection with the video, according to reports.

Five people linked to a video of a couple having sex in a Beijing Uniqlo store’s dressing room have been arrested, according to reports.

Authorities captured the man and the woman in the video only hours after the footage from the Japanese company’s flagship location in the Chinese capital surfaced online Wednesday, according to state news media stories cited by BBC News.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of posting obscene material to Sina Weibo, the country’s equivalent of Twitter, and at least three other people are suspected of distributing the material, Beijing police said Sunday evening, according to The New York Times.

The 1-minute cellphone video shows the man imploring his partner to “call me husband” only moments before an announcement welcoming customers to the Uniqlo store in Beijing’s Sanlitun area can be heard in the background, CNN reported.

Circulating such footage is “against socialist core values,” the Cyberspace Administration of China said in a statement cited by BBC.

From CNN:

Some Chinese Internet users speculated the footage was a marketing ploy by Uniqlo, prompting the Japan-based company to issue a statement denying any involvement.

But the video did more than just turn heads online. On Wednesday evening, a steady stream of visitors took selfies outside Uniqlo’s flagship store in Beijing, a glass modernist building decorated with the company’s red logo.

All six of the customers CNN spoke with inside the store said they were browsing the aisles and looking for the infamous fitting room purely because of the sex video.

“I never heard of Uniqlo before the clip,” said a university student, shopping for printed T-shirts who asked only to be identified by his last name Zhang.

Officials from Uniqlo have denied any involvement with the viral video and told The Beijing News that no Uniqlo staffers have been arrested, according to the Times. Young people have been flocking to the store to snap photos of themselves outside after the video spread around social media.

Authorities have pledged to continue to investigate whether the company conceived the sex tape as a kind of marketing tool, China Daily reported. The company could lose its business license and pay a fine between 200,000 and 1 million yuan (about $32,000 to $161,000) if Chinese officials determine the company was complicit.

Officials are also upset at the companies behind the Twitteresque social network Weibo and the messaging app WeChat, over which the video reportedly spread. After executives from those companies got a stern talking-to from the government, the video has been difficult to find on the Chinese internet, according to the AP.
