Conor McGregor Reveals Why He Went At Referee Marc Goddard

Conor being Conor. We now know why Conor jumped in and went after a ref the other day. It was one of the coolest things I have seen as far as post-fight celebrations go. Another MMA fighter jumping and and celebrating! Awesome.

Now McGregor has explained why he made the bold move and jumped into the Octagon.

In a now-deleted tweet about the incident, McGregor wrote:

Bloke KO’d on the floor bout a minute straight and ref trying to say fights not over conor. that’s when I lost it. Fuck yous all.

Conor the badass!

This weekend According to TMZ: Conor McGregor went NUCLEAR at an MMA event in Dublin … slapping a regulatory official and pushing veteran UFC referee Marc Goddard for breaking up his post-fight celebration with training partner Charlie Ward.

McGregor was PISSED — pushing Goddard from behind and getting in his face … before the officials and BFF Artem Lobov escorted him from the cage.

But Conor wasn’t done. He came back, climbed back on top of the cage and straight slapped one of the officials upside the head.

Here is one video from the fight:

Conor has come back with a “better” statement about the situation.

“I sincerely apologize for my behavior at last weekends fight event in Dublin. While trying to support a loyal teammate and friend, I let my emotions get the best of me and acted out of line. As a multiple weight UFC champion, executive producer, role model and public figure, I must hold myself to a higher standard. The referee Marc Gonard was making a horrendous decision in trying to pick an unconscious fighter up off the floor and force the fight to continue into the second round. Even against the wishes of the said fighters coach. The fight was over. After witnessing my fighter in a fight where the worst happened and the opponent passed away from his injuries on the night, I thought the worst was about to happen again, and I lost it and over reacted. I am sorry to everyone. I sincerely apologize to the Director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, Mike Mazzulli, all the officials and staff working the event, Andy Ryan and his fighter John, two stonch ones that put up a great fight every time. That side will always have my respect, and lastly every one of my fans. I love yous all! I’ve always learned from my mistakes and this will be no different.”

According to Unilad:

Although it’s not known what was said in their face off, it seems McGregor wasn’t too pleased with Goddard’s reaction to his presence in the Octagon and wanted to give him a piece of his mind.

It could also be possible he wanted to get at him for chucking him out of the arena during the Andre Fili-Artem Lobov bout at UFC Gdansk.

Speaking to MMA Fighting Goddard says he kicked McGregor out because he was acting as a fourth cornerman for teammate Lobov, which he deemed unfair.

He went on to explain:

That’s not allowed. Imagine he had Conor talk him through a fight-ending sequence. Then what?

Conor was basically acting like a fourth cornerman.

Walking around the cageside wherever and whenever he wanted. When Fili took down Artem, Conor was right there.

That’s simply not fair and not allowed. I won’t have it. He can’t do as he pleases.
