Cops Arrest Mailman Who Yelled At Them After They Almost Hit His Truckpostal23n-4-web[1]

Glenn Grays, 27, of East New York, says he was driving along President St. in Crown Heights on March 17 when an unmarked police car nearly hit his mail truck.

A Brooklyn mail carrier was arrested on the job this week for yelling at a group of undercover cops after they allegedly nearly hit him with their car.

According to Gothamist, postal worker Glenn Grays was working his mail route in Crown Heights on March 17 when an unmarked car carrying a group of plainclothes police offers nearly struck his mail truck. Grays angrily berated them – according to the cops he was “loud and boisterous” – as you tend to be when you’ve had a brush with danger and your adrenaline is up.

The cops apparently didn’t take kindly to the verbal response, rounded on Grays, and promptly arrested him in the middle of his work day. As Grays remains stiff one cop yells “Stop resisting!” and “You’re gonna get hurt unless you give me your fucking hands!” before leading Grays to the police vehicle.

Throughout the altercation citizens shout at the cops to leave Grays unmolested and film the encounter, one shouting “lawsuit!” The man filming says “See, this is the bullshit that we talk about.”

The police allegedly left Grays’ mail truck in the street unsecured.

“It is not a crime for someone to voice outrage after almost being struck by a vehicle … It is not a crime to state that you’re angry at someone who almost hit you. That is not a crime,” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams stressed.

Brooklyn’s Borough President Eric Adams condemned the arrest: “It is not a crime for someone to voice outrage after almost being struck by a vehicle … It is not a crime to state that you’re angry at someone who almost hit you. That is not a crime.” Adams called for the arresting officers to be reprimanded for their actions.

Adams also told reporters, “This could have been another Eric Garner situation if Glenn hadn’t responded as calmly as he did. And if they would do that to Glenn in his uniform, they would do that to any person of color in that neighborhood.”

Adams also noted the NYPD could be in trouble for leaving the mail truck unattended.

Grays, who has no criminal history, was taken to the 71st Precinct station house before being released with a ticket for resisting arrest.

Video of the near-hit that set off the confrontation hasn’t yet surfaced, but what’s evident from the video that we do have is that Grays, whose mail truck can be seen in the background, was in the process of delivering a package when the police cuffed him. He is then simply pulled off the job, having committed no apparent crime, stuffed in a vehicle, and taken into custody.
