A father was on the way to visit his newborn Monday night when he was fatally shot in a suspected road-rage incident outside Seattle, the Seattle Times reports. It’s unclear what exactly happened between 33-year-old Dennis Sloboda and the other driver, but Sloboda showed up at his brother Anton’s apartment and said the other driver had flashed a gun at him at a traffic stop. Not only that, but the man had apparently followed Sloboda to his brother’s apartment. The man left, and Anton ignored his brother’s request for a gun, believing the man was gone for good. He told him to eat something and watch a movie instead. “I was like, ‘You have a family, you have a kid, you’ve got to be a father. Just wait around,'” Anton tells the Federal Way Mirror.

Instead, Dennis Sloboda left his brother a little while later to resume his trip to the hospital to visit his wife and son—born just five days earlier, KOMO News reports. He never made it. Sloboda was found dead a few miles from his brother’s apartment, shot in the head through the back of his car. Police are continuing to investigate what happened. “He’s the sweetest guy,” Zakharry Sloboda says of his brother, Dennis. “Want to help everybody.” Anton adds to the Mirror: “He had his best life right now.”
