Rebecca Cade, 31, was trying to flee her suspected killer when her sleeve became caught on a barbed wire fence. Her body was later found hanging there, Chillicothe police said.

The body of an Ohio woman who police say died while desperately trying to flee her suspected killer was found hanging from a fence — a sight spectators initially thought was for Halloween.

“It was straight out of a horror story,” Tammy Dixon, whose nearby Chillicothe home is heavily decorated with spooky items, told WCPO-TV.

Rebecca Cade’s sleeve had apparently become caught while trying to climb over the barbed wire fence bordering a Chillicothe power plant, police told the Columbus Dispatch.

The struggling 31-year-old mom, who had past run-ins with the law, reportedly died there after suffering blunt force trauma to her face and head. When fencing contractors found her Tuesday morning, her body was mistaken for a dummy.

Cade's body, found hanging from this fence, was initially mistaken for a Halloween decoration.

A bloody rock was found nearby, detectives said, and 27-year-old Donnie Cochenour was arrested that same day for her murder.

Though Cade’s killing is one of several to rock the city over the last 16 months, police have said that they don’t believe it’s tied to what some fear is a serial killer in their midst.

Angela Robinson, whose daughter Tameka Lynch was one of those tragic victims, said her heart goes out to Cade’s family.

“No parent is ever supposed to feel this pain. You’re not supposed to bury your child,” she told WCPO-TV.

Cade’s cousin, Denise Hughes, also expressed her heartbreak.

“Rebecca didn’t deserve that, what happened to her,” she told the Columbus Dispatch Wednesday.

Hughes admitted that Cade has made many mistakes. She’s been raising Cade’s 15-month-old son since shortly after his birth with symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome, she said.

“She was always running the streets and always doing the drugs, but she had people who loved her,” she said. “I hope she knew that.”

Just a few months earlier she had also been badly beaten, leaving her hospitalized for a couple days, she said.

“I went to visit her, but she told me she didn’t remember nothing,” she said.
