Some Dumb Idiot On ‘Catfish’ Thought He Was Really Dating Katy Perry For 6 Years
There’s a lot to be learned from MTV’s “Catfish,” most notably the fact that there are infinite amounts of people who are happy to conduct long-term relationships with people who are most certainly not who they say they are.
Take, for example, Spencer: A very nice young man from Tennessee, he believed for a full six years that he was dating Katy Perry. They never met in person, yet he was so deeply in love with her that he planned to propose and spent a pretty penny securing a ring for those exact purposes. When confronted with the obvious truth – no, the pop darling had not been contacting him all these years – Spencer decided the correct course of action was to vehemently oppose the reality check he’s been giving.
Harriet, an equally nice yet clearly deceptive Canadian woman living abroad, was brought in to confront Spencer face-to-face but again, he did not believe it. Spencer even went so far as to email “Katy Perry” to tell her that someone was trying to impersonate her before being able to even consider that his love may not be real. He did, ultimately, get there (or at least did so for the camera).
Check out a clip from the episode above, or watch it however you get your MTV elsewhere. And if you or someone you know is in a situation like this, you should probably get the ball rolling on returning to reality.
