Facebook Admits To Censoring Leaked DNC Emails From Wikileaks

facebook-censorship-wikileaks-compressed[1]

As WikiLeaks’ DNC email dump flooded the web, many of Facebook’s one billion users noticed something strange when sharing links: Facebook had removed them.

After public outcry, Facebook responded that it had been fixed, calling the blocks an “accident.”

Sexting your mother instead of your boyfriend is an accident. Ritualistically removing content that implicates the DNC in a plot to derail the Bernie Sanders campaign screams more “conspiracy” than “whoopsidaisies.” As The Next Web points out, Facebook has an algorithm to protect against spammy content, but as to why WikiLeaks links were so easily removed while Ray Ban sales continue to cloud user’s feeds remains a mystery. While Facebook reports the problem is “fixed,” they have not provided a reason for the initial censorship.

This isn’t the first time in (very) recent memory that users took note of the political censorship taking place on Facebook. From The Next Web:

Previously, Facebook was discovered to have removed a Live video of Philando Castille dying, and posts of the Bastille Day aftermath were scrubbed from the newswire. Its news bar has also come under fire for being biased.

Integrity, credibility, and freedom of speech seem like the natural solutions to the omnipresent censorship present in big brother. Other users have another suggestion: Delete your account and get the dome.
