Frat Suspended After ‘Extremely Racist’ Video Surfaces –

On Wednesday, Syracuse University suspended the Theta Tau fraternity after a disturbing video of its members using racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, sexist and ableist slurs surfaced.

The video was posted to a secret Facebook group called “Tau of Theta Tau,” and was eventually forwarded to university officials. The Facebook group and the chapter’s website are no longer accessible.

According to The New York Times, Syracuse University’s independent student newspaper, The Daily Orange, obtained and published the video after the university declined to release it, citing its continuing investigation.

The video depicts the fraternity brothers vowing to always have “hatred in their hearts” for “n*ggers, sp*cs, and k*kes.” They then proceed to pretend to masturbate each other and mock performing oral sex on one another. Throughout the six-minute video, the participants continue to laugh while making racist and anti-Semitic comments:

“There is absolutely no place at Syracuse University for behavior or language that degrades any individual or group’s race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, disability or religious beliefs,” says the university’s chancellor, Kent Syverud, in an email to students and faculty. “Upon confirming Theta Tau’s involvement, the university’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities immediately suspended the fraternity, effectively halting all activities.”

Syverud added that the university is now working on identifying the individuals in the offending video so they can take disciplinary action.
