A man in Algeria is suing his new bride for “fraud” after seeing her without makeup for the first time.
According to Emirates 24/7, the man (who is not named in the story) found his fiancé plenty fetching leading up to their big day. But once they’d tied the knot, she pulled off her human face to reveal she’d been a hideous monster all along. Via Emirates 24/7:
“The groom told the judge that he could not recognise his wife after she washed the make-up off her face.
“He said he was deceived by her as she used to fill up her face with make up before their marriage,” the papers said, quoting a court source.
“He said she looked very beautiful and attractive before marriage, but when he woke up in the morning and found that she had washed the make-up off her face, he was frightened as he thought she was a thief.
Elsewhere, the paper translates it as “a thief who came to steal his apartment,” which would be quite the heist, indeed.
This seems as good an argument as any that couples should live together—or at least get remotely acquainted with one another?—before binding themselves together for life. But maybe that’s just my decadent secular imperialism talking.
The man is asking for $20,000 in damages for “psychological suffering,” which: Poor baby. I’m sure it’s not traumatic at all to have your husband accuse you of being a grotesque she-beast with no value other than your looks who tricked him into marriage under false pretenses.
