Frosty Windshield

As winter finally descends upon the Northeast United States with sub-freezing temperatures this week, commuters up and down the eastern seaboard are undoubtedly tacking those extra minutes on to their daily commutes to defrost windshields for the frigid trek to the office.

And unless you’re lucky enough to own a remote starter for your car (like only 2 people out of everyone I know), those countless extra minutes spent defrosting your windshield every morning will seriously cut into your sleep time before the season is all said and done.

But what if I told you that there was a way to defrost your car in HALF THE TIME it usually takes? Jackpot, right!? That’s like 10 extra minutes of sleep every morning.

Send your thanks to ex-Nasa engineer Mark Rober, who scientifically devised a way to expedite your defrosting process, through a trial & error experiment on his YouTube channel. Rober begins the video explaining the science of why windows actually frost up before explaining his optimum defrosting method beginning at the 3:20 mark. Genius!

In summary, the method Rober discovered was by far the best at speeding up windshield defrosting boils down to these four simple steps:

1. Turn your heat to max
2. Enable the AC
3. Turn OFF in-car air circulation
4. Crack open the windows

Who knew it could be so simple!? Or that shaving cream also acts as an anti-frosting agent? The only time I ever thought to put shaving cream on a car was during the prank wars my friends indulged in back in high school, so I’ll be damned. Learn something new every day.

Enjoy those extra few minutes of sleep, bros.
