High School Evacuated, 5 People Hospitalized And Pumpkin Spice Is To Blame

We always new pumpkin spice sucked.

The Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore was part of quite the strange occurrence when everyone was evacuated and five people were taken to the hospital in a bizarre hazmat situation. Oh, and why did all this happen? Because of a damn pumpkin spice air freshener.

After the school’s website wrote that a “strange odor” was detected on the third floor, an odor that the school’s president, Bill Heiser said it was a smell “they certainly weren’t used to,” the school was ordered to evacuate. Oh, and the Baltimore City Fire Department’s hazmat unit investigated the odor. Yep.

Huffington Post

“Five members of our community were transported to area hospitals as a precautionary measure,” the school said. The local CBS station reported that four of the patients taken to the hospital reported nausea due to the odor, with one taken in for treatment on an unrelated issue.

The Sun said the odor was traced to a plug-in aerosol air freshener with a pumpkin spice scent.
