Man Tweets Joke About Murdering His Roommate, Actually Murders His Roommate

Screen-Shot-2016-08-22-at-3.53.43-PM[1]

Having roommates sucks. Best case scenario, it’s a friend who you get a long with most of the time and one of you moves out before your little pet peeves drive each other up the walls and ruin the relationship. Worst case scenario it’s some asshole off of Craigslist who doesn’t pick up their toenail clippings and uses all your expensive shampoo without asking.

Either way, the frustration of being cooped up in a shared space with another adult when hey-I’m-fucking-31-I-should-be-able-to-afford-my-own-goddamn-place-by-now has probably driven most of us to joke about killing our roommate at one point or another. We might have even put it on social media. Zachary Penton of Gilbert, Arizona, sure did.

Most of us, however, don’t actually go ahead and murder our roommates.

According to ABC15 Arizona, Penton, 21, and his roommate, 41-year-old Daniel Garofalo, got into an altercation Sunday which ended with the former shooting the latter. Penton reportedly called police and confessed to the crime, and Garofalo was pronounced dead at the scene when EMTs arrived. Penton was arrested and booked in Maricopa County Jail on murder charges.

Police say they do not know what sparked the altercation, but an investigation is ongoing. Hey, bro, all you gotta do is check Penton’s @ replies. Looks like it might have been about bees.
