be8846cec55b109d08053955c5bc4883McDonalds had to know what they were doing. The New Zealand branch of the franchise launched its “Create Your Taste” campaign with a special promotion: Design your own burger and get free fries and a soft drink for your trouble. Not a bad idea in theory, but then there’s the part where they let everyone share their hideous creations. There was no way that someone somewhere at the company didn’t speak up at one point and say “Hey uh, you know that the internet is just going to create the most offensive and terrible burgers possible, right?”

But if you go to the front page of the site, that’s exactly what you’ll see (EDIT: Uh, at least, that’s what it was like on Wednesday night, It has been removed now.). Better yet, don’t go to the front page of the site, because all you’ll see is a non-stop parade of the world’s most racist sandwiches. That’s sadly not surprising. This is the internet, after all. But what’s baffling about this is that McDonald’s thought it was a good idea. It’s 2016. We live in an age beyond the UK’s Boaty McBoatface or Mountain Dew’s Gushing Granny. Mickey D’s put some pretty weak word filters in place, but we all know that only makes online goblins get more creative.

Again, unless you’d like to be depressed for the rest of the day, it’s probably best to stay away from the chaos that is constantly unfolding on the Create Your Taste site (EDIT: Again, you can’t see it, but trust us, the majority of it was Nazi propaganda and Harambe memes). If you’re really curious though, we’ve culled some of the least offensive (and in a couple cases, kinda funny) burger concoctions the internet came up with. It sometimes pays to keep an eye on the “authors” of these abominations, too.

Thanks to the deviants at NeoGAF for bringing this to our attention.
