He just wanted to carpool…..
A South Florida man was high on methamphetamine when he ran across the tops of multiple vehicles last week, including one that he “surfed” down the road, police say.
Police charged Jonathan Restrepo, 25, with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for causing more than $1,000 damage to two different cars.
Witnesses, including a man who captured a cellphone video of the incident, said the Coral Springs native exited his girlfriend’s car and climbed atop several vehicles in the middle of traffic.
“He was screaming as if he were terrified that people were going to kill him and he needed help,” Joe Brogna, who filmed Restrepo on top of the car in front of him, told WPBF. “He kept jumping on cars, begging people to let him in, which nobody did, fortunately.”
Restrepo remained atop a Nissan Altima that proceeded down the road, moving back and forth on his knees and peering inside the window at the driver. He eventually jumped from the vehicle when police cars came the other way.
“When he went to run away from the cops, he didn’t even run away from them,” Brogna told WPBF. “He ran a few feet and then ran back at them. He was really confused, just acting crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Restrepo followed police orders to lie on the ground and told officers he was on meth, police say. He was arrested, taken to the hospital, and has since been released.
