Misprint Ends Up Putting The Number For A Phone Sex Line On EBT Cards In Maine

SSWylER[1]

In an unfortunate mix up, a bunch of EBT cards in Maine have a misprint on the back, so when someone calls to report a lost or stolen card, they end up dialing a phone sex line instead.

The number for the lost card department and the sex line are one number off, so several people have tried to call the help line, only to be met with “Welcome to America’s hottest talk line. Ladies, to talk with interesting and exciting guys free, press 1 now.” Assuming they dialed wrong, most people try again, only to get the same result.

25-year-old LJ Langelier ended up hearing the message over his car speakers (THE MAGIC OF BLUETOOTH!). Langelier “thought it was just hilarious,” and dialed the number several more times, and even recorded one of the calls once he got home and posted it to Facebook:

John Martins, a spokesman for the Department of Human Health and Services acknowledged the error, and said all new cards were being printed with the correct number. He also assured everyone, “We have a plan in place to replace all existing defective cards and have taken additional steps to strengthen our review process so this type of inadvertent error does not occur again.”

As to how such an unfortunate coincidence could occur, well, it turns out it’s no coincidence. Again, from Martins:

While we recognize that we are responsible for this inadvertent error, what we have learned is that it appears the company that operates this chat line searches for phone numbers that are very similar to widely published government phone numbers and buys them to take advantage of either consumers who misdial or an inadvertent error in publishing the number.

You’ve fallen right into their trap! Their sexy devious trap!
