New Mexico Man Sets Apartment On Fire Because Neighbors Were Having Really Loud Sex

Reuben Cook, 36, set his apartment on fire to get away from his neighbors having loud sex.

He wanted some peace and quiet, so he resorted to some hot stuff.

Tired of hearing his neighbors having loud sex, a hot-headed New Mexico man set his own apartment on fire to get some peace and quiet in a jail cell.

Reuben Cook, 36, told police he “tried to burn anything he could think of” in his apartment on Sunday at about 10 p.m., leaving minor fire damage in four different spots, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

“He stated that he heard people having sex upstairs and making a lot of noise,” according to Cook’s criminal complaint. “Mr. Cook stated that by starting the fires he could go to ‘prison’ and get away from the noise.”

He got his wish, after officers charged him with arson, and he was taken to county jail.

Officers found a lighter in Cook’s pocket, which the alleged arsonist said he used to start the blaze.

His father, David Cook, said his son hasn’t been able to think logically since suffering from a stroke that left him mentally impaired, according to the local outlet.

“They had to remove part of his brain,” Cook told the Journal. “He’s not in control of the things he thinks. It was not something he planned.”

Cook was released on his own recognizance from the county jail on Tuesday.
