Paedophile Avoids Jail For Absolutely Shocking Reason
A paedophile has avoided jail time over fears that he could be targeted by other inmates.
Derek Lamond admitted to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, however his lawyer claimed he could become the target of violence if he was jailed and asked the judge to consider other punishments than a custodial sentence.
Gwen Haggerty told Dunfermline Sheriff Court:
The concern is he would become a target. The other offenders would become aware of his offence. There has already been at least one incident.
Lamond, 51, was tagged for ten months and he’s been placed on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
Sheriff Derek Reekie told the court that while there was ‘no doubt’ Lamond’s offence merited jail time he believed the public could be protected better by a community-based sentence.
His young victim’s family have been left outraged by the decision, especially as Lamond had been given a weeks extension on his sentence due to him having a pre-booked trip to the Channel Islands planned.
Her mother said:
I can’t get my head around it.I felt physically sick when I found out. I wanted closure – my bairn wanted closure on it. I’m fuming.
That’s another week my daughter has to suffer. The sooner he is locked up the better. I hope they throw away the key.
She added that her daughter had been left scarred by the assault but applauded her bravery in coming forward about of the assault.
