Porn Stars Say Airbnb Is Kicking Them Off The Service

Airbnb is closing the accounts of sex workers, XBIZ reports. Julie Simone (above, left) and Andre Shakti (right), both porn stars, shared stories of being kicked off the vacation rental service on social media.

Simone is a BDSM performer who travels internationally for work and will face difficulties if she is no longer able to use Airbnb. “It’s a scary world where one can be punished for something they haven’t even done yet,” Simone said. “The fact that performers have no recourse and our legal names and stage names are out on the internet linked together for all to see without our consent also disturbs me.”

Airbnb says using their service for sex work is against their standards. “Prostitution is not allowed and we are constantly reviewing the platform to be sure any activity in the listing is in line with what hosts would be ok with in their home,”

Shakti is a BDSM performer as well as a writer for Cosmopolitan. She wrote on Facebook that she uses the service for personal reasons rather than professional:

I may be a sex worker, but I’ve never utilized an Airbnb for sex work — only leisure/vacations — and had nothing but stellar reviews from hosts. As a side note, all of the sex work that I do is 100 percent legal, so they can’t even claim that I’d be potentially subjecting them to litigation. This is blatant discrimination, and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. Completely unacceptable.

Airbnb is not the only service sex workers face roadblocks when trying to use. Businesses used by sex workers such as Chase, PayPal, MaserCard and Visa have also been reported to shut down known adult performers accounts.
