Ranking The 19 Most Hated Characters In ‘Game Of Thrones’

“I choose violence.” – Cersei Lannister

HBO’s award-winning drama, Game of Thrones, returns for a sixth season on April 24th. The shows creators have spent five seasons treading lightly between George R.R. Martin’s novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, and their own creative vision. But as George R.R. Martin continues to write the sixth installment in the series, the show has reached a point where David Benioff and D.B. Weiss can begin their own path.

If you haven’t realized this by now but you are about ten seconds away from spoilers galore. So if you haven’t seen the show or need to catch up to the finale from season 5, you better step away for now and come back another time.

For those not living under a rock, Jon Snow is dead. He is as dead as a non-living person, a doorstop, a rock, or any other cliche you can think of. The show’s most beloved and popular character, played by Kitt Harrington, was stabbed by the Night’s Watch for being a traitor. They were led by a man named Alliser Thorne.

Oh, how we hate this man.

Not only did he stab Jon Snow, he had the balls to do it first. His day will come.

So will all the other hated characters on the Game of Thrones. They will all have a date with destiny, eventually.

Here are the Game of Thrones television show’s most hated characters of all five seasons.

Pyat Pree (Season 2)

During Game of Thrones second season, we are introduced to another city, Qarth. It’s a trading city where those that live there seem to believe it is the greatest city ever. Pyat Pree was the spokesperson of the warlocks and also the creepiest character we have ever come across in the series. Death: Burned alive by Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons

Locke (Seasons 3, 4)

Before Jaime Lannister became the best one handed swordsman alive, he was being transported by Locke. In fact, it was Locke that cut off his hands in a shocking twist that would end up changing the entire course of the series. Death: Bran Stark broke his neck while he warged into Hodor.

Theon Greyjoy (All)

Theon Greyjoy is one of the most hated characters because he is the most annoying. He is a complete tool that had the chance to become a great King but he squandered it because he took everything way too personal. He lost the respect of just about anyone that was ever in life.

Olly (Seasons 4, 5)

Olly is such a sad character now. At first, you felt pity for the kid as his entire family was gone and he had nothing left but Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch. So we forgave him when he killed Ygritte because he thought he was saving Jon. But there is no saving him now, he used his friendship with Jon Snow to lure him into a mutiny leading to his death.

Janos Slynt (Seasons 1, 2, 4, 5)

Tyrion pointed out that Janos Slynt has no honor and it was no surprise as this man is the same one that personally murdered some of Robert Baratheon’s bastard children and watched over as the others were also killed. He ends up being sent to the Wall to be a member of the Night’s watch for the remainder of his life. During the Battle of Castle Black, he ran and hide in the kitchen, locking the door behind him. Death: Beheaded by Jon Snow (Season 5)

Roose Bolton (Seasons 2-6)

Roose Bolton, along with House Frey, had been secretly working on a plan to kill as many of the Stark’s as possible. The plan resulted in a backstabbing triple murder of Robb Stark, Talisa Stark, Lady Catelyn, Edmure Tully, and everyone else traveling with them during the Red Wedding. He is also the father to another character that is on this list, Ramsay Bolton.

Ser Meryn Trant (Seasons 1-5)

Both Joffrey Baratheon and Cersei Lannister were protected by Ser Meryn Trant. He was responsible for several key deaths including Syrio Forel. Arya Stark held him responsible for this murder and never forgot about it until the day she got her revenge. Death: Stab multiple times by Arya Stark.

Lysa  Arryn (Seasons 1, 4)

How old does a child have to be before breastfeeding is just plain disgusting? Lysa Arryn not only breastfeeds her son Robin, she coddles the crap out of him causing him to become one of the most annoyingly spoiled characters on the show. When she would yell, it was like nails on a chalkboard. There was only one time when her screaming was soothing, and it was when Petyr Baelish showed up. Death: Pushed through the moon door to her death by Petyr Baelish.

Robin Arryn (Seasons 1, 4-6)

If you thought Lysa was annoying, then you had no choice but to feel the same for her son, Robin. This kid has been so sheltered that he barely even knows how to hold a sword let alone act in public. His fits of rage are amusing until they become downright painful to watch. He hasn’t died yet but there is always time.

Walder Frey (Seasons 1, 3, 6)

Walder Frey gave up his daughter to marry Robb Stark as part of an agreement between the Freys and the Starks. But when it turns out Robb married Talisa instead, the insulted Walder Frey made a deal that led to the Red Wedding and the death of three of the shows best characters. The man is 90 years old and shouldn’t have many days left.

Craster (Seasons 2, 3)

Craster is one of the most vile and grotesque characters in all of Westeros. He has zero likable qualities and has impregnated all of his daughters just to make more daughters. He sacrifices the boys to the White Walkers. Death: Murdered by Karl Tanner

Viserys Targaryen (Season 1)

All the way back in Season 1, the show introduced us to an entitled prick, Viserys Targaryen, the brother of Daenerys. He was a whiny bitch that ended up threatening his sister by sword, which he learned real quick was a bad idea as he was then forced to walk the rest of the trip across the country. His death is still one of the best on the show. Death: Khal Drago poured molten Gold on his head and it turned his head into a cotton swab.

Grand Maester Pycelle (All)

There aren’t many people on the show that are as faithful to another character as Grand Maester Pycelle is to Cersei Lannister. He never once opposed her causing him to lose all respect from the rest of the council. We hated him not because of his loyalty to Cersei but to his loyalty to himself. He would do anything to save his ass including selling out just about anyone he can just to save his own life.

Alliser Thorne (Seasons 1, 4-6)

Prior to last season, Alliser Thorne was annoying but not that hated. But the moment he put his sword through the chest of Jon Snow, he became one of the most hated of them all. That bastard killed Jon Snow and hopefully will not be around much longer.

Melisandre (Seasons 2-6)

Of all the characters on this list, Melisandre just might be the least hated but only because we have seen her naked more times than Pamela Anderson on a boat. Other than her naked body being shoved into our faces every year, this amazingly awful person convinced Stannis Baratheon to burn his own daughter alive. Her ability to control Stannis lead him to his demise and the death of all his men.

Tywin Lannister (Seasons 1-5)

How could anyone love Tywin Lannister? This is a man that not only blames his son Tyrion for the death of his wife, she died giving birth to him, but also because he is a midget. He hired a whore to pretend to be a normal young woman that he would fall in love with and eventually marry. The plan worked and Tyrion fell completely crazy in love with her only to find out, many years later, that not only was she a whore, Tywin and many of his men slept with her, some even raping her. It is demonic and just plain sick. Death: Tyrion shot him with a crossbow.

Ramsay Bolton (Seasons 3-6)

Sick, twisted, insane, and mad are just some of the words that can describe the bastard son of Roose Bolton. As the only living son left, his life was not taken and he has remained alive with a chance at redemption for a life spent rejected by his father. That doesn’t change the fact that when we first meet him during season 2, he is torturing Theon Greyjoy in ways that would make even the toughest of stomachs a little sick.

Cersei Lannister (All)

Cersei Lannister was once King Joffrey’s mother and full-time lover to her twin brother Jaime Lannister. But over time, her son died and Jaime became nothing more than a relative, like he is supposed to be anyways. Her power was ripped from her and she finally felt the pain of being a peasant in Season 5. She is honestly the perfect example of a “See You Next Tuesday”, which is a euphemism for a really bad word you would use to describe a terrible person.

Joffrey Baratheon (Seasons 1-4)

Joffrey was an annoying little brat with nothing to like besides the fact that he was dumb enough to make mistakes along the way, hence Margaery Terrell’s strategic move for the throne. But just when we thought the kid could be human, he does something else to force us to hate him ever more. The constant onslaught of hate viewers had for him caused the popularity for the show to grow exponentially. Death: Poisoned during his Wedding feast.
