Filimaua ‘Dez’ Laalaai was caught on CCTV punching and kicking a homeless man in the head. The fight occurred after a verbal altercation between the men and Laalaai and his friends. Seven News reported Laalaai was convicted only of fighting and causing fear as the three men did not wish to press charges. The former under-18s state rugby player and youth group leader pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a nine-month intensive supervision order, 50 hours of community work and copped a $1000 fine. Judge Ronald Birmingham reportedly labelled the attack “vicious” and “gutless”.
