The life of June Korea is shared with his partner Eva – but she’s not a woman known for her walking and talking

Sex dolls are on the rise, and one photographer has shared images of his encounters with his own companion.

But while there are those of us who dismiss the practice as not being a real relationship, June Korea shows an emotional connection with his pretend girlfriend.

New York-based June, originally from South Korea, admits it was profound loneliness which led him to buy his doll, who he called Eva – and now has a ‘fantasy’ with her.

He says within the fantasy world, he records their relationships as if it’s real – adding that they they eat, sleep and travel together.

June illustrates her arrival with a photograph of her in the giant cardboard box she came in in December 2014 – he said that he wanted to shape their ‘relationship’.

The 34-year-old has taken pictures of them out and about enjoying their home city, as well as in the flat they share.

The images have enthralled June’s 1,300 Instagram followers are are also showcased on his website .

The project, called Still Lives: Eva, is what June calls a “staged documentary” of a man’s life with a sex doll.

He says while he started out photographing other sorts of dolls, when he thought about it, he realised Eva was the type of doll he wanted to record.

“I questioned myself… ‘What if I create an artificial eternity? What if I give a doll a new birth, with a new identity?

“What if I make the one stay with me forever in the fantasy world I construct?'” he explains in an interview with Fotografia magazine .

The life-sized doll that would best resemble a human being was Eva – and June even suggests that he would like an AI chip for her to make her even more real.

“Sex dolls like Eva might be a good place to start. Technology evolves in unpredictable ways – we could see something like this in 5 or 10 years,” he says.

“The photographs I create can be anything that can happen in our real life. Eva and I sleep and wake up together.

“We go shopping, dining, driving, and even travel together just like ordinary people do in their real lives. We laugh and cry, we feel happy and lonely just like all people living in our urban world.”
