STATE TROOPER GETS HIS EAR BITTEN OFF IN SCUFFLE
A state trooper was hospitalized after his ear was partially bitten off when he was assaulted Thursday morning after he responded to a call about a man walking in the roadway. The incident happened just after 7 a.m. on Nickel Plate Diagonal Road near Biggs Road in LaGrange Township.
Authorities said the trooper responded to the area after a caller reported a man, later identified as 44-year-old Cornelious L. Carey, walking in the roadway. The caller told police the man appeared drunk and she was worried about him getting hit by a car. When the trooper found Carey and approached him, Carey became confrontational and started hitting him in the face and bit off a part of the trooper’s left ear, authorities said.
