LARPING: THE PREFERRED NERD SPORTS ACTIVITY - HERE'S 15 GIFS OF LAUGHABLE LARPERS

LARPING: THE PREFERRED NERD SPORTS ACTIVITY - HERE'S 15 GIFS OF LAUGHABLE LARPERS

Never heard of LARPing? You know when a group a people get together, dress up in medieval gear made from their parents’ furniture and pretend to wage war on each other with plastic swords and spears? That’s LARPing, or live action role-playing. You’ve probably seen it before in movies like Role Models, or Knights of Badassdom.

Now, no offense to those who enjoy it, whatever floats your boat is cool with me. But when you stick “weapons” in the hands of people who typically aren’t the most coordinated bunch, you can kind of expect what’s going to happen.

FAILS. Glorious, glorious fails.

12 Of The Messiest Public Breakups Of All Time

12 Of The Messiest Public Breakups Of All Time

Love is dramatic. When a relationship is floating on a cloud it can transform even the most level-headed of people into a walking cliche of a butterfly struck teenager. Likewise, when a former love connection goes south escalations can quickly unfold into a web messier than a telenovela plotline.

Many times, the fiery passion of a love lost cannot be contained behind closed doors, and upset couples find themselves dueling it out in public. For the rest of us onlookers, this can be equal parts deeply uncomfortable and wildly entertaining, depending on the breakup.

In order to behold some of the messy breakup beauty that's documented out there on the internet, I scoured a few key Reddit threads to gather 12 of the messiest, funniest, or straight-up weirdest public breakups.

1. This man who used Beyonce as a breakup soundtrack.

2. This couple who did each other equally dirty.

3. This couple who split over cheesecake funds.

12 Times Tumblr Pondered The Agony And Ecstasy Of Elon Musk

12 Times Tumblr Pondered The Agony And Ecstasy Of Elon Musk

Why is it that everyone's obsessed with Elon Musk? Is it the fact that nobody else seems to embody the bold industrialist man of science ideal that's been a part of American mythology since Thomas Edison? Is it because he sits at the crossroads of our generation coming to terms with the limitless possibilities and unavoidable flaws of capitalism? Perhaps it's the fact that while other billionaires are dull, hoarding assets and amassing wealth through inscrutible financial instuments Elon is in the news every day pushing new (and sometimes strange) ideas? It could be the fact that he is a canonical part of the Marvel Universe (I'm not the only one who remembers that cheeky cameo in Iron Man 2).

Considering all the controversies and weird rumors that have surrounded him in 2018 it's no wonder why we can't seem to stop talking about him. Money, fame, happiness, drugs, politics, technology, THE FUTURE ITSELF are all wrapped up in the world of this quiet computer programmer who grew up to inspire (and draw ire) from the entire world.

Cop After Deadly Car Crash In Va.: 'Hahahaha Love This'

A police officer far removed from the weekend violence in Virginia faces disciplinary action because of it. That's because Conrad Lariviere, a cop from Springfield, Mass., made what even he admits is a "stupid comment" online about Saturday's fatal car crash, reports MassLive. "Hahahaha love this, maybe people shouldn't block roads," Lariviere wrote on Facebook in response to a story about the car plowing into counter-protesters. Someone who saw the comment complained to the city police department.

"Never would I want someone to get murdered," Lariviere told MassLive. He said he wasn't a racist and didn't support the white supremacist rally, adding, "I'm a good man who made a stupid comment and would just like to be left alone." Springfield's police chief says he has launched an investigation, and the matter will be brought before a police review board. Mayor Domenic Sarno doesn't sound sympathetic. "There is no place for this in our society, let alone from a Springfield police officer," he said, per CBS Boston.

25 Red Flags On Your Resume That May Keep You From Getting The Job

These days the job market isn’t easy. There are definitely more qualified workers than there are jobs. This means that you can’t afford to make any mistakes when it comes to the hiring process. You need to have a solid resume. It needs to be bulletproof. What you may not realize is that people aren’t the only ones looking at it. At bigger companies it is typically a computer that scans your resume first. Only the resumes that get past that initial check will actually be seen by human eyes. This fact alone leads to several helpful tips in order to maximize the chances of getting your resume into the human resources department. But not only are there things that you should do, there are also things you shouldn’t do. Today we’re going to go over the biggest mistakes that people make when they are creating their resumes. Some of these involve pet peeves of hiring managers, others are just little technicalities that lead to your resume getting thrown out. Either way though, our goal is to get you an interview. If you can get that far, then you’re on your own. These are 25 red flags on your resume that may keep you from getting the job.

25

Cutesy contact Information

Cutesy contact Information

Source: reddit

Emails like [email protected] are a sure fire way to land your resume in the trash bin. Make sure your email is professional sounding.

24

Lengthy gaps

Lengthy gaps

Source: reddit

If you have lengthy gaps on your resume it can set you back so in your cover letter you’ll need to explain why (kids, education, saving the world, etc). Just remember it’s always better to be honest. Employers are concerned about you losing your edge so also mention what you have been doing to stay on top of the industry.

23

Being unemployed

Being unemployed

Source: reddit, Image: wikipedia

If this is you, you’re not alone. Companies don’t like this because they think it causes your skills to dry up. Our advice: try to pick up freelancing or consulting work to add to your resume. If all else fails, at least volunteer for a worthy cause so that you can talk about your experience (see the last item)

22

Changing jobs too often

Changing jobs too often

Source: reddit, Image: wikipedia

This makes it seem like you are uncommitted. They will train you and you will run. You need to alleviate their fears and briefly justify why you changed companies so often in your cover letter.

21

Spelling mistakes

While some recruiters are more lax on this than others, you should do everything you can to maximize your chance of getting the job. Proofread!

20

Not being professional

Not being professional

Source: reddit

It may seem old school, but unless you are absolutely sure that you can refer to someone casually…don’t do it.

19

Social Media

Social Media

Source: reddit, Image: wikipedia

While not strictly related to your resume, even if you don’t mention your social media profiles, you can almost bet that they will be searched out and examined. Posting negative comments about past employers or talking about how you got wasted yesterday are not going to help your case.

18

Discrepancies

Discrepancies

Source: reddit

If your resume doesn’t match up to your LinkedIn profile, you need to fix that right away. Otherwise hiring managers will either think you are lying or sloppy.

17

Overqualification

Overqualification

Source: reddit

Hiring managers don’t want people who will bail on them the next chance they get. If you are obviously overqualified for your job, explain in your cover letter why you are applying, how you can help the company, and how this job matches your long term goals.

16

Not customizing

Not customizing

Source: reddit

The Applicant Tracking System (ATS) will automatically chuck your resume if it doesn’t contain keywords from the job description. Why? Because employers don’t want people who aren’t genuinely interested in the job or who haven’t even taken time to read through the posting.

15

Applying to multiple open positions at the same company

Applying to multiple open positions at the same company

Source: reddit

This isn’t so much a problem with the structure of your resume as it is with what you do with it. There is very little chance that one person will be legitimately qualified for multiple positions in a company, so if you apply to more than one on the company job board, you risk irreparably undermining your credibility.

14

Irrelevant clutter

Irrelevant clutter

Source: reddit

Although you may have been king of the chess club at John Smith high school, if it doesn’t relate to the job for which you are applying, get rid of it. Some hiring managers will think you don’t have anything meaningful to talk about. Note: this same rule may not apply in Europe where CV’s are oftentimes much more detailed and personal than in the United States.

13

Hobbies

Hobbies

Source: reddit

As we just mentioned, this is relevant only if you are applying for jobs in North America (and possibly a few other places). By and large though, American companies don’t care what you do with your free time and don’t want to know. Although it may not be so much of a red flag, it can certainly get your resume discarded in the initial stages.

12

Age

Age

Source: reddit

Age discrimination in jobs is a real thing. Standard advice for older candidates is to leave your graduation date off your resume. Also, only use ONE space after periods. Double spaces are actually used to screen out older candidates (we know, you learned on a typewriter).

11

Obsolete work experience

Obsolete work experience

Source: reddit

This goes for older candidates as well. If you start listing things you did 20 years ago, all that is going to tell someone is that you are too old for the job. Anything that is more than 15-20 years old is probably no longer relevant in most industries.

10

Salary information

Salary information

Including your past salary information in your resume may send the wrong message. Salary negotiation will come later.

9

Buzzwords

Buzzwords

Source: reddit

Terms like “guru”, “ninja” or “self starter” run the risk of getting on the hiring managers nerves more than anything. Let your achievements speak for themselves.

8

Outdated fonts

Outdated fonts

Source: reddit

It’s not a crime, but using Times New Roman or other serif fonts will likely just give away your age again. Go for Arial or some other standard sans-serif.

7

Too many skills

Too many skills

Source: reddit

If you list anything and everything (we’re looking at you MS Word masters) then the recruiter will think you are just trying to impress them rather than actually listing your skills. List a few and show how they are relevant to the job.

6

A picture

A picture

Source: reddit

While in some countries this is the norm, in the United States your resume will likely get thrown out. Some companies do this automatically in order to protect themselves from possible discrimination lawsuits.

5

Overselling

Overselling

Source: reddit

If you were a barista at Starbucks don’t write that you were “in charge of creating an uplifting ordering experience”. If you oversell the little things you probably oversell the big things.

4

Length

Length

Source: reddit

Unless you are in academia, or you are applying for jobs in the same European countries that require photos, do not have a long resume. Many hiring managers will throw it out unless it gets to the point quick. Keep in mind that even famous CEOs have 1 page resumes.

3

For profit college

For profit college

Source: reddit

This one might hurt some people, but attending a for-profit school like University of Phoenix is actually looked down on by many hiring managers. The reason for this is because it makes you look like you are gullible, do not make wise choices, and/or attended a diploma mill that gave you a degree for your money. If you are considering online/for-profit schools…don’t! Do yourself a favor and attend a reputable institution. Most are cheaper and have online programs as well.

2

Skills beneath the job description

If you are applying for an IT job do not list Microsoft Word as one of your qualifications.

Lack of relevant information

If the employer asked for something specific, like professional license status or citizenship, make sure to include it. Missing something like that is sure to lose you the job.

25 Red Flags On Your Resume That May Keep You From Getting The Job

13 People Who Have Absolutely No Idea How Offensive Their Shirts Are

Let's just assume these people have no idea what their shirts say.

Why is this in a children's size?

This might not be the right look for his college interview.

Putting "whore" on a white dress is a nice touch.

I can't tell if this shirt is an invitation or a warning.

The gold lettering here really brings out the sexy stylishness of the word fart.

They totally misspelled "honest hardworking employee."

Can't tell if this shirt is full-frontal fetish or accidentally racist.

This is a terrible shirt but I still think Amy Poehler should star in the film.

Pretty sure my cat made this shirt after running across the keyboard.

At least they got the right forms of "too" and "to."

No. Wrong. Stop.

It isn't a lie, whoever made this shirt definitely IS an asshole.

This kid who totally knows what his shirt says.

15 Most Ridiculous Ways People Have Let Freedom Ring

Happy 4th 'Murica!

This guy who painted his car the color freedom.

Which, of course, also smells like freedom.

This magnificent display of 'Murican beer.

This free meal for all freedom lovers.

This gasoline-powered celebration of victory.

This sugary mountain of glory.

The only real way to eat corn on the cob at a 4th of July barbecue.

This handy way of having your freedom fries on the go.

This triumphant tank that will get you tanked.

This freedom-mobile the Founding Fathers would truly be proud of.

This true patriot who became a flag.

This all American apology.

This pair of spectacular sunglasses.

This soldier who is prepared for anything.

So if your doorbell rings, it might just be some freedom.

7 Sword-Wielding Morons Who Shouldn't Be Allowed Near Sharp Objects

Just leave it on the wall above your TV where it never should have been in the first place.

This is not how you use a sword inside (at least he wasn't using that gun).

This is not how you chop a watermelon.

sword animated GIF

This is also not how you chop a watermelon, but it's a great way to chop your hand.

This is not how you hold on to a sword.

This is now how you use two swords at once.

This is not how you throw a sword at ice, because why would you do that to begin with?

And finally, this is not how you sell a sword on a home shopping network.

Trust me, this classic video is worth watching the whole thing, with audio.

17 Questions That Can Only Be Answered With A Lie

Honesty is always the best policy. Until it's not.

1. When your S.O. asks, "Does this make me look fat?"

2. When you're at a wedding and someone whispers, "Aren't they just perfect for each other?"

3. When a brand new Mom croons, "Isn't this the cutest baby you have EVER seen?"

4. When your kid makes dinner and asks, "Does it taste good?" with those big, hopeful eyes.

5. When anyone, ever, asks, "Well, how old do I look?"

6. When that annoying coworker gushes, "Don't you just love working here?"

7. When someone you love asks, "Am I the best you've ever had?"

8. When that ambitious friend asks, "What'd you think of my poem/screenplay/novel?"

9. When your chronically unemployed sibling asks, "Is your company hiring?"

10. When that person you just met gasps, "Wanna hang out this weekend?"

11. When pretty much anyone asks, "Can I get a ride?"

12. When someone drones on and on and then demands, "Did you hear what I just said?" out of nowhere.

13. When you're totally not on your way and you get an, "Are you on your way?" text.

14. When that friend of a friend wants to know, "Can I crash on your couch?"

15. When the friend who ordered the bottle of wine for the table asks, "Do you mind spotting me?"

16. When you're having a really bad day and some cheerful bastard asks, "How are you?"

17. When your Dad scopes the caller ID and answers with an "I guess you're calling for your mother?"

See? Untruths make social situations less awkward and prevent hurt feelings. So we won't tell if you won't.

'50 Shades Of Grey' Author Had A Q&A On Twitter And It Was A Complete Disaster

EL James, author of the widely ridiculed, universally infamous, 50 Shades of Grey took to Twitter to take questions from fans to promote her new novel, Grey. It quickly proved to be a big, big mistake.

Right out the gate, the questions got real.

And of course, she didn't answer them. But that didn't stop users from hijacking the Twitter chat and flooding it with the questions they really wanted answered.

Users did not let up...

...at all.

It was brutal.

An accurate depiction of what was going on in James's head three questions into the Twitter chat:

Source: Giphy

But users didn't just take the Q&A as an opportunity to question James about the social implications of her work, they also had some fun...

Even her..."unique" writing style wasn't spared.

But the best question came near the end of the Q&A:

It probably felt something like this.
