Teacher Arrested After Getting Drunk In The Classroom

You can only put up with so much from those damn kids and their rap music before you snap.

According to AL, that tipping point came in the form of getting hammered in the classroom for one Alabama high school teacher Tuesday afternoon, and now she’s on paid leave while Limestone County school officials conduct an investigation.

The 40-year-old Tanner High School family and consumer science teacher named Mae Gladys Edwards was arrested by the school resource officer around 1 p.m. after a student narked on her and said she was “behaving oddly.” When the SRO went to investigate, he found a bottle of booze near the teacher’s desk. Based on that and Edwards’s actions, she was arrested and charged with “public intoxication and illegal possession of prohibited liquors.”

Not surprisingly, that is not part of the family and consumer science curriculum at Tanner High School, and to say Limestone County Schools Superintendent Tom Sisk was pissed about it would be an understatement.

“We have no tolerance for this kind of alleged behavior on school property,” Sisk said. “It’s very troubling our kids were exposed to this kind of behavior.”

No word on what set off Edwards to the point where she decided to throw her teaching career away, but it sounds like it was something a little more than a student or two forgetting to put their names on their homework.
