Teen Girl Calls 911 Because Parents ‘Forced Her To Go On Vacation With Them’

$

A teen girl from Mississauga, Ontario, called 911 last Tuesday to report what was, in her mind, a very serious crime: Her parents “forced her” to go on vacation with them.

As first reported by the Star, Police responded to a rental cottage in Trent Hills after receiving the call, but according to Northumberland OPP Const. Stephen Bates, they quickly determined that there was “no real emergency.”

“This appeared to be a case of a teenager being a teenager,” Bates said. “Although she perceived this as a real issue, it was not an appropriate use of 911.”

It’s possible that police responded thinking this may have been some sort of kidnapping or abduction situation, but after confirming the girl was safe and interviewing all occupants, they determined it was just a normal family vacation.

“Calls such as this tie up police resources which could impact the safety of others in the community who are in real need of assistance,” Bates added. The girl was cautioned for misuse of the emergency number.

According to reports, teens across Canada collectively sighed, rolled their eyes, and put their headphones back on.Trent River Ontario
