It’s understandable that Hollywood stars get annoyed when paparazzi get in their faces, but you’d think they’d be a bit more patient when they have encounters with fans. Unfortunately, some of these famous people were apparently jerks even before they were famous. These are the rudest celebrities according to fans.

Fan stories about rude and mean celebrities can be pretty shocking. Consider the case of A-list actor Christian Bale, who has reportedly made children start bawling. Musician Morrissey has nothing but ill wishes for people who send him fan mail, while heartthrobs like Justin Bieber and Robert Pattinson seem to be new-generation nasty towards the adoring masses who made them famous.

Justin Bieber Allegedly Spat On Fans

When one fan tried to snap a selfie with Justin Bieber, he told her that her lack of respect made him “sick.” He also yelled at fans for talking during a 2016 concert and allegedly spat on fans beneath his Toronto hotel room in 2013. However, a representative later claimed that nobody was below Bieber’s balcony and he didn’t actually spit on anyone.

Chevy Chase Slapped A Longtime Fan In The Face

Chevy Chase has garnered a reputation for being difficult to work with and possibly racist. There are countless accounts about him being disrespectful to co-workers, so it shouldn’t be that shocking to hear he can be unpleasant to fans.

Actor and comedian Rob Huebel was a longtime fan when he met Chase at an Upright Citizens Brigade show, and he said he told Chase all about it. How did Chase respond? He slapped Huebel so hard that he “saw red.”

Chase tried to make a “joke” out of it and said, “Can’t you see I’m talking to somebody, kid?”

Catherine Zeta-Jones Demoralized An 8-Year-Old

One woman remembers going to an advance screening of The Mask Of Zorro when she was 8 years old. At the after party, she excitedly told star Catherine Zeta-Jones she wanted to be an actress, and that’s when things got awkward.

“She turned to me, looked me up and down, and said ‘You’re pretty enough, I suppose,’ then went back to her conversation,” the woman claimed. “In many ways, I think of that moment as the turning point when I went from feeling at ease in the world to constantly thinking about how everyone was judging me on my appearance.”

Christian Bale Reportedly Made Little Girls Cry

Christian Bale is infamous for being rude on the set of movies, but he’s apparently not great off the set, either. His former publicist wrote in her tell-all book that Bale is often awful when fans approach him. He’d reportedly “lecture little girls about being rude and intrusive until tears streamed down their faces, and their parents tugged them away from our table.”

When another fan sent him a letter at his house, Bale allegedly told his publicist the fan should be “eliminated,” and she said he even offered up a suggested method. “A screwdriver thrust through the eyeball into the brain prevents any screaming. Let me know how it goes.”

Rihanna Cyberbullied A Fan

In May 2014, 16-year-old Alexis Carter showed off Rihanna-inspired prom outfit: a bat-winged pantsuit. Carter made the outfit herself, and Rihanna rewarded her fan by making her the laughing stock of the internet.

Rihanna began tweeting side-by-side photos of herself and Carter. The hashtag #PromBat took off, and Rihanna retweeted some of her favorite jokes, including “The Dark Thot Rises.”

Carter later told Baltimore’s Fox 45 News (via The Baltimore Sun) she was very offended. “Why throw shade on it when you had on the exact same thing? The poses was different but the outfit wasn’t… She don’t love her fans like she says she does.”

Ariana Grande Allegedly Mistreated Contest Winners

In 2013, Dan O’Connor and his daughters, Jen and Kelly, were set to meet Ariana Grande when Jen won a contest sponsored by MTV, VH1, and Pepsi. O’Connor revealed how it went down on his blog.

After a long day of being shuffled around, they finally met Grande – and she reportedly only spent 15 seconds with them. They took a few photos, but Grande demanded they be deleted.

Tobey Maguire Told A Woman To Bark Like A Seal

Fans once voted Tobey Maguire the worst autograph signer in Hollywood, with some claiming that he’s too “wrapped up in his own egotistical web” to interact with fans. But the stories get weird.

In her memoir Molly’s Game (which was later adapted into a movie starring Jessica Chastain), Molly Bloom said Maguire reportedly offered her a $1,000 dollar poker chip at a high-stakes game in 2014. But there was a catch: she said Maguire told her to bark like a seal.

When Bloom refused, she said Maguire told her, “I’m not kidding. What’s wrong? You’re too rich now? You won’t bark for a thousand dollars?”

In a review on TripAdvisor the person claimed: “When she came out to greet the audience, she was cold, even seemingly annoyed that she had to do the show… She complained! Lea Michele Walked Off The Set Of A Talk Show

Fans of the British TV show This Morning were dismayed when Glee star Lea Michele abruptly got up and left after her interview. On her way out, she quickly shook the hosts’ hands and fled the set without really having a conversation with them.

Actress Hailee Steinfeld also said she saw Michele on the Paramount lot when she was auditioning for True Grit. When Steinfeld asked for an autograph, Michele walked right by her.

Michael Jordan Wouldn’t Take A Photo With Another Celebrity

Michael Jordan (who only really qualifies as a “Hollywood” celeb because of Space Jam) is a hero to lots of people, but he lost one famous fan in 2009.

Rapper Chamillionaire said he was at a party after a charity auction and Jordan was there. But when Chamillionaire approached Jordan for a picture, he said the NBA legend shot him down.

He said Jordan told him, “I ain’t taking pictures with no n*****.” When the rapper tried to explain he was a huge fan and had just purchased a $7,000 commemorative Michael Jordan jersey, he said Jordan replied, “You know what? I tell you what, you pay $15,000 right now for a jersey from me, and I’ll take a picture with you.”

Cuba Gooding Jr. Got Pushy With A Bartender Who Kicked Him Out

If a celebrity doesn’t want to take a picture with a fan, that’s their prerogative, but Cuba Gooding Jr. reportedly took things too far.  At a New Orleans bar in 2012, Gooding allegedly began to swear at fans who requested a picture with him. A female bartender asked him to leave, but she said Gooding responded by shoving her into a wall.

Someone called the police, but Gooding told reporters it was all a misunderstanding.

Sandra Bullock Allegedly Yelled At A Fan In A Wheelchair

Being America’s sweetheart only gets you so many free passes in life. One fan said she and her husband, a wheelchair-bound veteran, encountered Sandra Bullock while she was in Boston, MA filming The Heat in 2012. The woman said they asked for an autograph, but Bullock reportedly covered her face and yelled at them.

They knew Bullock was busy, but the woman said she didn’t think it warranted such a loud response.

Sean Penn Reportedly Threw A Fan’s Cell Phone

Sean Penn has a history of violent outbursts. In the past, he’s been given 60 days in jail for punching a movie extra and 300 hours of community service for kicking a photographer. But he also showed his ire at a sales conference in 2013.

While in the lobby of the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, CA, Penn became enraged when another conference attendee tried to take a picture of him. Penn allegedly grabbed the man’s cell phone and threw it to the ground while screaming, “Do we look like f*cking zoo animals?”

The man decided not to press charges.

Morrissey Sent A Brutal Letter To A Pen Pal

Morrissey is notoriously prickly, but he sent an especially moody response to a personal ad in Sounds magazine in 1980, a few years before the Smiths became a band. When a man from Scotland sent him a letter, Morrissey (whose real name is Steven) penned a note that reads like this:

“Dear Person,

So nice to know there’s another soul out there, even if it is in Glasgow.

Does being Scottish bother you? Manchester is a lovely little place, if you happen to be a bedridden deaf mute.

I’m unhappy, hope you’re unhappy too.

In poverty,

The note was even signed with a sad face.

Robert Pattison Wonders What Fans Do All Day

The Twilight movie franchise inspired fan fervor when it first hit screens in 2008, turning Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart into superstars. But Pattinson made a slightly rude comment about “Twi-hards” in a 2013 interview (via Huffington Post).

“Sometimes I ask myself what these masses of people do the whole day,”  he said. “They sit in front of their computers and comment on anything having even remotely to do with Twilight.”

Russell Crowe Scolded A Talk Show Audience For Clapping

Russell Crowe is infamous for his violent outbursts, whether it’s throwing a phone at a hotel employee or allegedly threatening Azealia Banks. But he showed his temper in a very public way in 2015 during an appearance on the Irish talk show The Late Late Show.

After host Ryan Tubridy convinced him to give the studio “something to tape our toes to,” Crowe joined the band for a rendition of the Johnny Cash song “Folsom Prison Blues.”

Once he got started, he scolded audience members who were trying to clap along. “If you’re going to clap, clap in time. If you can’t clap in time, just shut up.”

Bruce Willis Yelled At Kids For Recognizing Him

During the 1996 Summer Olympics, Bruce Willis and his then-wife Demi Moore visited a California Pizza Kitchen in Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta, GA. An employee of the restaurant claims two boys around the age of 10 noticed Willis, then smiled and pointed at him from a distance. But Willis reportedly stood up and yelled at the boys, presumably for interrupting his lunch.
