The ‘Harley Quinn’ Spin-Off Will Be A ‘R-Rated Girl Gang’ Film

The Aussie actor fully embodied the sick, twisted persona of the former psychiatrist turned villain and when the movie was over, everyone was asking when we’d get to see more of her.

While we know that a Suicide Squad sequel is on the cards, we discovered two years ago that there was a spin-off in the works that involved Quinn.

Margot has told Collider: “I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends’. Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film.

“She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it.”

In the DC comic books, Harley is friends with Catwoman and Poison Ivy, who appear together in a series entited Gotham City Sirens.

But it seems as though Margot has other plans for her character.

The Academy Award nominated actor said she aligned herself more with the Birds of PreyTV series that was released in 2002.

That included the likes of the Huntress (aka the daughter of Batman and Catwoman), the Oracle, (one of Batman’s apprentices) and Dinah Redmond, daughter of the Black Canary.

Robbie told Moviefone: “I know that they were exploring Gotham City Sirens with David Ayer, and I know they were exploring a Joker and Harley Quinn movie, and they were exploring doing I don’t know what else.

“I wasn’t a part of those. I was focusing on this. I kept presenting it to the studio until they felt it was at a point where they were ready to do it. And now we’re all in.”

She’s already secured Cathy Yan to direct the film and while she wasn’t specifically looking for a female to lead production, Robbie did think it was important to have more women in these types of blockbuster films.

“At the end of the day – male, female – the best director gets the job and Cathy was the best director,” she told Collider.

There’s no word on when this girl gang film will be released but it’s fair to say it will probably be incredible.
