Two men in, yes, Florida have been arrested on suspicion that they used a backhoe to steal an ATM from outside a bank before making off with it in their pickup.

After police responded to the scene and found the building that had contained the ATM had been smashed and the cash machine removed they issued an alert. Shortly thereafter, two men were found with the missing ATM in the back of their Ford F-250. They claimed they’d been collecting scrap metal and weren’t sure how the ATM had gotten into the back of their truck.

ATM? What ATM? Oh that ATM.
ATM? WHAT ATM? OH THAT ATM.

Both of these two nincompoops had priors with one fine fellow having violated his probation and the other on probation for grand theft. It’s believed they stole the backhoe from a nearby construction site before using it to perform their crude smash and grab.

There’s even a fairly creepy video of the theft. From the heavy breathing it appears to be a recording of a recording and captures the backhoe advancing on the ATM like a Jurassic-age predator in grainy, horror-film quality until the video cuts out….which is presumably when the digging, tearing, and rending of metal took place as these two chuckleheads uprooted the ATM and placed it in their getaway truck. All of which must have been a very noisy and obvious process.

As a teller at the bank told Bay News 9:

“It’s a shame. I’ve never seen anything like that to take a dang bulldozer the stuff you see in on TV like in cartoons to demolish a building,” said Catherine Ingram, a banker at Center State Bank.

Florida, man… It’s like living in a cartoon.
