One plucky candidate in Toledo’s mayoral race is promising that the city will face total annihilation if she’s not elected.
Opal Covey – described by local news station NBC 24 as a “frequent candidate” – is a self-described “prophetess” with an axe to grind who says the election was stolen from her in 2013. NBC 24 interviewed Covey as part of a “Meet the Mayoral Hopefuls” series and, while Covey is certainly hopeful, she is also vengeful.
The first part of the interview with the five-time candidate goes well enough. Covey says her plan as mayor would be to repair the city’s potholes and add numerous tourist attractions in order to bring “great wealth” to Ohio’s fourth largest metropolis. (Suck it, Akron.)
But, when asked if she had anything else to add, Covey said “Great destruction will come upon–” and then began speaking in tongues, unleashing a stream of nonsense words and ending with “Thank you, Jesus.”
By way of explanation Covey said:
“That was a confirmation. If people don’t give me what I earned in 2013 back and I’m not on that seat in November then you’ll see God come and visit the city in the greatest destruction you’ve ever seen.”
Now there’s a bulletproof campaign pitch: If you jerks don’t elect me I will rain destruction upon you. #OPAL2015
