Vodafone And Nokia Are Installing 4G On The Moon

Great news for those people living in a spacious five-bedroom house on the moon, which by our calculations would appear to be nobody.

According to Metro, the nerds at Vodafone, Nokia and PTScientists will be installing a 4G network on the moon that will be fully operational by 2019. That’s when the German firm PTScientists will be launching a pioneering expedition to the moon in which its Audi Lunar Quattro robotic explorer rovers will be using the connection to communicate with a base station known as the Autonomous Landing and Navigation Module.

“In order for humanity to leave the cradle of Earth, we need to develop infrastructures beyond our home planet,” PTScientists CEO Robert Boehme said. “With this mission to the moon we will establish and test the first elements of a dedicated communications network on the moon. The great thing about this LTE solution is that it saves so much power, and the less energy we use sending data, the more we have to do science!”

That’s truly amazing news for the dozens of people who will likely be involved with the project. Meanwhile for the hundreds of thousands of people who call remote areas of the American West on this planet home, sorry, but you’re still fucked.
