WHAT IT WAS LIKE AT A MEDIEVAL TAVERN

I’m gonna throw this out here, because I think its interesting. In England in the 1600’s, with the introduction of coffee and coffee houses, there was actually an attempt by Parliament to outlaw coffee houses, which people were going to instead of taverns. The reason being that when you go to the tavern and start talking politics with your mates, you’re going to be drunk and so, when you start chanting ‘down with the establishment’ its no concern, because that’s just what you do after a few flagons of ale, but when you start chanting it in the coffee house, well that’s when you should take it seriously. The justification for this attempted banning of coffee houses, was a widespread claim that excessive consumption of coffee caused male impotence, so it was a public health measure.
