Woman And Her Girlfriend Kicked Out Of An Uber For Kissing And The Video Is Going Viral

New York City is one of the most progressive cities in the world, but it is still not immune from homophobia.

On Saturday, June 9th, Alex Iovine and her girlfriend of two years, Emma Pichl, called an Uber to take them from Brooklyn to the East Village in New York City.

The two got into Ahmad El Boutari’s car, but were booted when they shared a smooch in the backseat.

Happy Pride Month!

“We peck kissed, like I reached across and pecked-kissed her,” Iovine told News 4. “That’s how fast it was that’s why I say ‘pecked.'” When the driver asked the women to get out of his car, Iovine said, “It was immediate shock. We couldn’t believe something like this was happening.”

El Boutari pulled over his vehicle and opened the back door, Iovine started filming on her phone.

Iovine later uploaded the video onto Facebook where it went viral.

“This is absurd. I’m so sorry this happened to you two,” wrote one commenter.

“Absolutely crazy..way to stand up to this nutjob,” said another.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi responded quickly to the fiasco, saying that homophonic drivers “don’t belong on Uber.”

“I think they don’t belong driving period,” Khosrowshahi added in an interview with the New York Post on Monday. “This is an open society and Uber is a platform that is available to anybody regardless of your background, your orientation, and that is sacred to us. It’s an unfortunate circumstance and we will do everything we can for that not to repeat.”
