Woman Arrested For Inviting Strangers To Stroke Her Genitals, For Art

Just one year after getting arrested for letting tourists take photos with her naked person at the Eiffel Tower, the Swiss artist has been arrested once more, this time for inviting strangers to stroke her breasts and and vagina, for art.

For her latest project “Mirror Box,” the plucky performance artist walked around five European cities with either her boobs or her genitalia encased in, well, a box made of mirrors, and invited people via megaphone to stick their hands in there and stroke her parts. She says she did this to make a point about consent.

Via Dazed and Confused:

“I am standing here today for women’s rights and sexual self-determination,” the artist declared during the first ‘Mirror Box’ performance. “Women have a sexuality, just like men have one. However, women decide for themselves when and how they want to be touched, and when they don’t.”

Everything went well enough in Düsseldorf and Amsterdam, but she foundered on the rocks of English propriety in London’s Trafalgar Square, where she was arrested, jailed for 24 hours, and charged “a four digit fine.”

Never one to miss out on a timely news peg, she managed to tie her arrest in with news of the Brexit, holding up her disparate treatment in easygoing Amsterdam, versus tight-lipped London, as evidence of poor European unity.

Via Dazed:

…she suggests that laws within the continent should be “regulated uniformly” should Britain keep its membership.“The UK should remain in the EU,” she adds. “Europe is like a big family. in which you can’t choose the members and you prefer some more than the other, but what Europe unites is the blood of freedom, which flows in all. Keeping Great Britain in the EU makes this family stronger.”

Free flowing capital, ease of immigration, and standardized laws on naked lady touching: All reasons the UK should have remained in the EU.
