Woman Drags Officer With Car, Lead Police On Chase

An 18-year-old Wisconsin Rapids woman is in custody after dragging an officer alongside her vehicle while trying to escape arrest, according to a news release.

Nekoosa Police Chief Shawn Woods said an officer was attempting to arrest Mariah Czappa around 8 p.m. Sunday at Dollar General, when she attempted to drive away and dragged the officer alongside the vehicle for 10-15 feet before striking a fire hydrant.

The officer, uninjured, was able to free himself.

Police said Czappa continued in the vehicle and reached speeds of 100 mph through Nekoosa and Pittsville, ending near State Highway 73.
