Women Took Turns Driving Drunk And Each Smashed Some Vehicles
Two women in the same vehicle were charged with drunken driving after they took turns smashing parked cars on a Hoboken street, authorities said.
Jamila Banks, 24, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Janelle Green, 23, of Newark, were charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and DWI in a school zone just before 4 a.m. after at least four vehicles were struck on March 31, Hoboken police Lt. Edgardo Cruz said.
Police officer responded to a report of a vehicle striking several parked cars on Second Street between Bloomfield and Garden streets, Cruz said. Officers found Green, behind the wheel, and Banks, in the passenger seat, apparently highly intoxicated and reeking of alcohol, Cruz said.
Police interviewed the women and determined that Banks had been driving and struck at least two parked vehicles; and the women switched placed and Green struck at least two more vehicles, Cruz said.
The women both failed field sobriety tests at the scene and were arrested, Cruz said. At police headquarters they provided breath samples and were both found to be above the legal limit, Cruz said. Green and Banks were issued several motor vehicle summonses and released to a responsible party.
